About Aulestad

Aulestad, the home of Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson is one of Norway’s best preserved artist’s homes. This is where the Nobel Laureate, Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson lived with his family from 1872 until his death in 1910. The home of Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson was opened as a museum in 1935.

The history of Aulestad

The Bjørnson family bought the farm Aulestad in Gausdal in1875, The Bjørnson family bought the farm Aulestad in Gausdal in 1875, while they were living in Italy. Some years earlier the family had visited Aulestad, during a visit to friends at the Folk High School in Follebu.
