Bjørnson's carriages

Every day during summer season and weekends in September

All day

In the carriage shed at Aulestad you can see Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson's beautiful carriages.

Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson had several carriages, a stately Landauer and a smaller Kupé. Bjørnson often travelled with horse and carriage, amongst other all the way to Romsdalen.

The Landauer was produced around 1900. Bjørnson wanted to be known by this beautiful vehicle, and often mentioned the Landauer in letters to family and friends.

Luxurious

The exterior of the Landauer is black with plain decorations in gold and cobolt blue.  The interior is padded in blue and black with beautiful details. The doors have sash windows  with the poet's diagrams on the outside.

The coronation travel of His Majesty King Haakon and Her Majesty Queen Maud

The summer of 1906 King Haakon, Queen Maud and little crown prince Olav were on their coronation travel to Trondhjem.  They arrived Lillehammer station on 13 June and were picked up by Bjørnson's Landauer with the canopies down.  Bjørnson lent them his finest carriage, coachman and horses.
