Experience Aulestad

Visit Aulestad, situated approximately 15 kilometres north-west of Lillehammer, and get a unique insight into one of Norway’s best preserved artist’s homes.

Due to the situation with covid-19, the program at Aulestad will be different this summer. For the programme this summer, check out Daily programme.

The farm Aulestad is beautifully situated on the sunny side of Gausdal. This is where the writer Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson (1832-1940) lived with his Karoline for 35 years, and this is where he found great inspiration for his poems and his public engagement.

The Home

Karoline and Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson arrived at Aulestad with their four children on a warm and sunny day in June 1875. They arrived directly from a lengthy stay in Italy. Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson’s wish to rent a farm in Norway had been granted.

The Garden

Aulestad has beautiful gardens with a courtyard.
